As an Amazon seller, you know that product reviews are everything for your Amazon business. Customers are heavily influenced by the product reviews of your products. Having many, high-quality and engaging reviews is paramount to making sales.
We know that reviews are a key influencer in consumer decision-making and product purchasing. In fact, one of the most common Amazon seller challenges is getting product reviews. Not just any product reviews, but positive, informative and in-depth 5-star product reviews!
Product reviews can make or break your Amazon business. We know that consumers will most likely purchase a product that has the best reviews and ratings.

Amazon’s “Request a Review” button allows you to manually request reviews for each of your orders in Seller Central within four to 30 days of purchase. This is a very powerful feature that can exponentially increase your chances of receiving a review. The trick is to only reach out to repeat buyers. Buyers that have bought from you multiple times are likely very happy with your product and service and are more likely to leave positive reviews.
Amazon’s Vine Program is open to sellers who have Amazon brand-registered products and fewer than 30 reviews. In the Vine program, a seller submits 30 units of inventory. Vine reviewers receive the product for free, test the product out, and write a review. Don’t expect only positive reviews here as these are real people, really testing out your products. If you know your product is exceptional, this is a good way to get some good reviews.
In addition to Amazon’s internal automated responder, you can use third-party responders to send messages through Amazon’s seller messaging system. These are companies that follow up with your buyers for reviews.
If you also have an ecommerce store outside of your Amazon store, or sell on any other marketplace, you can ask those customers to leave reviews on your products on Amazon. These reviews may not be ‘verified’ since the customers didn’t buy the product from Amazon, but they are still effective in providing more reviews for your products.
This is a great way to source reviews for your Amazon products. You can include an insert such as a flyer with your order. However, you can’t directly ask for ‘5-star’ product reviews. You can ask for reviews, but remain neutral. Provide useful information and offer a way for customers to be able to contact you if they have an issue. Don’t direct your Amazon customers to your ecommerce store or any other marketplace as this is against Amazon’s policy.
You can mitigate poor reviews of your products proactively by ensuring that your product is top-notch and worthy of a commendable review. Reactively, you can address any customer service issues that may arise. Message the customer if you can and offer a remedy. Most times, they will happily oblige.
Many sellers launch new products on Amazon promotional markets like Promotions. And, thanks to the money-saving promotions offered by these sites, some shoppers feel an obligation to leave positive feedback. Keep in mind, however, that an Amazon promotional marketplace cannot ask a shopper for feedback in exchange for a product. Therefore, a review from a heavily discounted or free product is not guaranteed.
By using steep discounts, you can get more sales for your products and increase the likelihood of more Amazon product reviews. This is a good way to just get more reviews when starting out.
Most buyers on Amazon don't quite understand the difference between seller feedback and product reviews. Most of us have probably seen Amazon product reviews left in Seller Feedback at some point. It is essential to constantly review your seller feedback. The trick is to only reach out to customers that left positive feedback. This way, they will almost certainly leave the same positive product review.
If you engage in a conversation with people and provide great customer service, most people are happy to leave a great review regardless of the product. If you have a conversation with a customer and you ask them “can you leave a review?” most customers will happily oblige.
This is technically against Amazon's TOS, however, if used sparingly, the detection levels from Amazon are low and generally, if Amazon is suspicious of a small number of reviews, they will simply prevent them from being published. Don’t overdo it and follow the rules.
